The WN4DC Mini-counseling Courses are two self-paced programs that are designed to enhance a professional's ability to use motivational interviewing in a weight neutral way. This is done by focusing on the MI skill of O.A.R.S., which stands for Open-ended questions, Affirmations, Reflections, and Summary.
The student will practice O.A.R.S and learning techniques on:
- How to increase awareness of body cues such as hunger, fullness, and satiety without attaching these behaviors to weight loss for people with diabetes.
- How to discussed weight change by embracing weight neutral language and research.
- How to reduce food fears and counsel on how all foods fit.
- How to counseling clients about weight shifting and weight gain in a way that doesn’t increase the anxiety by promoting size acceptance and exploring size diversity.
- How to explore enjoyable movement for health, well being, and blood sugar control instead of exercising to change how the body looks.
The courses are broken down into mini-chapters of non-dieting. In part 1, this course reviews Open-ended Questions, OEQ, and Reflections. Part 2, reviews Affirmations and Summary.
